Insights from the Carbon Reduction Pilot
In 2024, Llaeth y Llan took a proactive step toward sustainability by joining the Carbon Reduction Pilot. Operations Director Michael Burrows shared, “Reducing carbon emissions is a priority for both Llaeth y Llan and our customers. Participating in this initiative was the ethical choice and aligned with our values.”
“The process began with a comprehensive audit and survey of the company’s factory operations. This included an in-depth view of energy usage, waste management, transportation logistics and production processes. The resulting carbon output provided a clear baseline of the company’s current emissions and provided tailored recommendations for future improvements.
“The entire process—from initial introduction to final report—took approximately eight weeks. Thanks to the company’s strong internal data management, the process was smooth and efficient. It was very easy as we had all the information to hand.”
Specific benefits
The carbon reduction plan has enabled Llaeth y Llan to engage more effectively with customers by providing transparent insights into their current environmental performance and future goals. This level of openness has strengthened customer relationships and supports continuous improvement in the company’s carbon reduction efforts.
Michael added, “It has enabled us to give our customers insight into where we are now and where we need to be in the coming years. This transparency has helped build trust and demonstrate Llaeth y Llan’s commitment to continuous improvement.”
“The carbon reduction plan has become a really valuable strategic planning tool for us. It’s helped us pinpoint areas where we can cut costs—whether that’s through improving energy efficiency, reducing waste, or streamlining our logistics. These changes don’t just benefit the environment—they also make our business more resilient and efficient in the long run.”

The expert guidance, combined with the support of the Welsh Government, the company was able to navigate the process with confidence and ensured the process was clear, manageable, and tailored to the company’s specific needs.
Looking ahead, Llaeth y Llan is committed to building on the momentum gained through the pilot. The company plans to continue monitoring its carbon footprint, implementing improvements, and sharing progress with both customers and the local community.
