Food & Drink Wales is committed to expanding the range of Welsh food and drink with the GI quality (Protected Food Name (PFN) mark. Quality and provenance are commonly sought out by today’s food and drink consumers, and our growing family of GI products have this in abundance.
The GI process promotes Welsh food and drink products, which tell stories of expertise, tradition and sustainability, all with a passionate sense of their distinctive origins. Today there are 24 items on the Welsh GI ‘A-list’, including icons of Welsh cuisine such as PGI Welsh Lamb, Welsh Leeks (PGI), Traditional Welsh Caerphilly (PGI), Single Malt Welsh Whisky (PGI) and many more.
We offer support to new products interested in attaining GI status. Once they've obtained this status, these products benefit from protected status and continual promotional activity both online and at events. You can view our map to see where current GI members are based and we can provide expert advice on how to qualify and apply for Protected Food Name status. For information about applying for a UKGI or protected food name status please contact UKGI.Wales@gov.wales.
