EU Deforestation Regulation: information for food and drink businesses
Food and drink businesses that trade with the European Union may wish to familiarise themselves with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and consider whether it is relevant to their products and supply chains.
The EUDR is intended to ensure that certain commodities and products placed on the EU market, made available within it, or exported from it are deforestation-free. The commodities covered by the Regulation include cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya and wood, together with certain products derived from them. For more information please read here
The European Commission states that producers and companies outside the EU do not have obligations under the EUDR unless they themselves place products on the EU market. However, non-EU businesses may be asked to provide information to support EU businesses in meeting their obligations, including information about where relevant commodities were grown, harvested or raised.
Welsh food and drink businesses exporting to the EU, or supplying businesses that trade with the EU, may therefore wish to review the European Commission's information and guidance and establish whether the Regulation is relevant to their activities.
